Generations of anticipation filled the hearts of people, as prophets foretold the coming of a great figure they hoped for. In a simple town, that prophecy was fulfilled when the Son of God took on the vulnerability, frailty, and weakness of humanity by beginning His life as we all do— as a baby. Holiness and power became present in human form when He was born to Mary.
Did anyone truly envision, despite all the prophecies about Jesus' arrival, that He would start His earthly life as an infant? That He would grow from a baby to a child, then to a teenager, and finally to an adult, just like everyone else since the time of Adam and Eve? Throughout His ministry, many viewed Jesus as a conqueror—a powerful figure who would overthrow the Roman government and establish Himself as their king. They desired for Jesus to demonstrate His power in ways that would afford them power as well.
And yet, at His core, Jesus was humble.
He willingly began His time on Earth as a powerless infant, born to His mother Mary and living a simple life.
Jesus transitioned from being one with the Father in Heaven—powerful and supreme—to willingly assuming a human existence and being born as an infant, inherently dependent on others. This humility defined His life and ministry. He did not come to overthrow governments; instead, through His loving sacrifice, He sought to conquer sin by taking on a human life and willingly giving it up.
The Son of God. Mary's son. God's perfect plan revealed at last.
Humility marked Him from the very beginning.
Prayer:
Jesus, You had all the power in the world and the universe, yet You submitted yourself to be born on this earth. You are so humble. I couldn't have been rescued from sin and death if You hadn't humbled Yourself in this way. Thank You! In Your name, Amen.
John 6:35 Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
Jesus replied, “I tell you for certain that you must be born from above before you can see God’s kingdom!”
Then everyone who has faith in the Son of Man will have eternal life. God loved the people of this world so much that He gave His only Son so that everyone who has faith in Him will have eternal life and never really die. God did not send His Son into the world to condemn its people. He sent Him to save them!
(John 3:3;15-17 CEV)
So you will be saved, if you honestly say, “Jesus is Lord,” and if you believe with all your heart that God raised him from death. (Romans 10:9 CEV)
